🔧 Facepunch shipped the June Rust update — “Built Different” — on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Like every first-Thursday drop, it’s a force wipe: both the map and every player’s blueprints reset. Let’s break down what’s inside and what to prepare for.
What’s in the update
The headliners are a new weapon and a big visual overhaul:
- M16A2 rifle — a high-end assault rifle that fires burst only, 3 rounds per burst, with a 30-round 5.56 magazine. The key catch: it can’t be crafted or researched — you only find it in end-game loot. It’s a gun for players who’ve already established themselves on a server.
- New player models — for the first time in nearly a decade, Facepunch reworked the character models: more detailed faces, bodies, hair, beards, clothing fit and materials. New hairstyles are in the mix too — a crew cut, a bun and a ponytail.
- Animations — updated jump, sprint, crouch and weapon animations; the third-person view now matches what the player actually sees more closely.
- Turret skins — the Auto Turret is now Workshop-skinnable, with community submissions opening June 11.
- Industrial Decor Pack — a paid bundle of 20 cosmetic items plus a Bowless Crossbow skin.
The force wipe: map and blueprints
“Built Different” is a force wipe: a fresh map is generated and everyone’s learned blueprints reset. Servers start from scratch, and the race is on for an early farm and a fresh M16A2 in loot. The first hours after a wipe are the busiest and tensest: newcomers and veterans are equal at the start, and that’s exactly when it’s decided who holds the map.
What it means for players using software
Rust is protected by EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat), and major client updates are a reason not to rush:
- Wait for the software to update. After a patch, overlay and memory software often breaks until it’s adjusted to the new client version. Check the current statuses before you log in.
- Account and hardware hygiene. On wipe day servers are packed and reports fly in batches — keep an HWID spoofer ready and don’t risk your main account.
- Check the statuses. The current state of software and patch compatibility is in our Rust section. The basics are in the cheat safety guide, and a feature rundown is in the Rust cheats overview.
The update’s contents are based on Facepunch’s official announcements. M16A2 balance and the new models may be refined in later hotfixes.
