Rust Power Trip: player maintained monuments and a satellite event

Rust's Power Trip update makes the power plant a server-wide switch, adds a satellite crash event and nerfs green recyclers. Here's what it changes for players running third-party software.

Rust’s monthly update, Power Trip, introduces what Facepunch calls Player Maintained Monuments. Instead of every location working on its own, large parts of the island now depend on whether somebody has bothered to restart the power plant — and keeps it running. That single dependency reshapes where players cluster during a wipe.

The power plant is now a server-wide switch

Heavy Fuses are the new key item. They drop as loot and go into dedicated fuse boxes at the power plant. Unlocks are staged: some systems need more fuses than others, so nobody flips the whole grid on with a single lucky crate.

With the grid live:

  • Roadside powerline poles with transformers start feeding electrical circuits. They can also be climbed now — walk up and jump, no ladder needed.
  • Green recyclers outside safe zones took a 10% cut to their 50% baseline efficiency. Sufficient power restores them to 60%, and at maximum power the cycle drops from 5s to 4.5s. Yellow recyclers inside safe zones are untouched.
  • A new red recycler sits at the power plant itself at 75% efficiency, usable only at full power.
  • A supermarket freezer produces a steady trickle of chilled food while powered, with occasional larger caches.
  • Oxum’s car garage wakes up from the grid or from the backup generator on the side; the door runs off a switch on the outer wall.

Satellite Crash and crude at Dome

The headline event lives at Launch Site. A new Satellite Control Computer takes tech trash and an aiming module, then hands you control of a satellite. Thruster buttons steer the impact point, and there’s no manual — working out which button does what is part of the puzzle. Lock it in and the descent becomes visible to the entire server before the crates hit the ground. They need to cool down before looting, by which point everyone knows where they are.

Crude works on a similar logic. With the plant online, a switch on Large Oil Rig pumps crude toward Dome for 20 minutes. You can’t collect it by hand: it takes a Tanker vehicle module to drain and a trip to a car lift to extract. Small Oil Rig has its own switch running at half rate, and enabling both at once yields 1.5x.

Water Treatment and roadside pipes

Water pipes now spawn along roads but start dry. Getting them flowing means maintaining Water Treatment Plant: two gearboxes were added inside, and with a live grid plus an inserted gear you can spin the valve wheel and pressurise the intact central tank. Gears are consumed and can’t be recovered. At full pressure the blades clear the blockages and water returns to the map — after which topping the pressure back up is far cheaper than a cold start.

What this means for players using software

Every monthly Rust patch ships a fresh client build, which means shifted offsets, and EAC almost always moves in the same window. Anything that ran before the update either refuses to inject or crashes the client outright. Treat the first hours after a wipe patch as downtime: check the update statuses and wait for a build marked as working rather than testing it on a loaded account.

The content itself matters too. A satellite crash announced to the whole server is a scheduled, player-placed PvP magnet — the crates broadcast their own location while they cool. Radar and ESP earn their keep there far more than aim assistance does: knowing how many squads are converging, and from which side, decides whether you approach at all. The power plant becomes the same kind of permanent hotspot now that fuse boxes are worth raiding.

Climbable powerlines also change sightlines in open terrain. Enemies can be above you in places that were flat before, so vertical render limits and visibility filters carried over from last wipe are worth re-tuning instead of reusing blindly.

Finally, new content brings a spike in report volume and the hardware bans that follow. If an account has already been flagged, run an HWID spoofer before the client launches, not after. Current builds for this wipe are listed on the Rust page.
