Marvel Rivals: Patch 20260521 — Magneto Nerf, Punisher Exploit Fix, New Anti-Cheat Mode

On May 21, 2026, NetEase released Marvel Rivals patch 20260521 — hero balance changes, a fix for one of the most frustrating exploits of the season, and an announcement of a new Anti-Cheat Mode system. We break down what this changes for team play, cheaters, and NetEase's infrastructure.

On May 21, NetEase Games released the latest update Marvel Rivals 20260521. Unlike earlier seasonal patches, this one leans heavily on “infrastructure”: a new Anti-Cheat Mode, a fix for the Punisher double-tap exploit, and a Magneto balance pass that had been dominating ranked Diamond+ for the past two weeks.

Hero Balance

Magneto got the most noticeable nerf:

  • Metal Shield (Q) — duration 8s → 6.5s
  • Ultimate (E) — cooldown 14s → 18s
  • Base armor reduced by 50 HP (350 → 300)

Punisher — the double-tap “Adjudication” exploit is fixed:

  • Previously you could fire a rocket and immediately trigger the skill — damage stacked into one frame (~720 dmg per tick on reset). This gave an instant KO to any tank under 700 HP.
  • Now a 0.3s “animation lock” is introduced between Adjudication and primary fire — the KO combo no longer lands on reflex.

Buffs:

  • Star-Lord — Boost headshot multiplier 1.5× → 1.65× (reverting the November nerf)
  • Storm — Tornado AOE radius +12%
  • Loki — illusions HP scaling 35% → 45% of base health (back in S-tier vs burst comps)

New Anti-Cheat Mode

The headline item of the patch is the “Anti-Cheat Improvements” section, with an explicit new option for players:

Anti-Cheat Mode (Beta) — toggle in lobby pre-game. Activates an additional kernel-level verification layer scanning loaded modules and behavioral input patterns. Triggers an instant disconnect rather than a ban — but records the incident for moderation.

From our initial testing:

  • Any user-space cheats (older Aimbot wrapper versions) — instant disconnect.
  • kmbox + standard firmware — passes init, but gets a server-side flag. After 10-15 minutes — soft ban (24h).
  • DMA + privacy spoofer + current firmware — passing cleanly for now. But this is a new system, and NetEase will sharpen signatures within 1-2 weeks.

Community Reaction

r/marvelrivals — 2.3K comments in 6 hours. Main positions:

  • Magneto nerf — deserved. Ranked Diamond+ win-rate was 67%, objectively too high.
  • Punisher exploit fix — long overdue. There were >40K complaints in NetEase’s tracker.
  • Anti-Cheat Mode — split reaction. Casual players welcome it, but competitive players complain that the kernel-level scanner adds 5-8ms input lag, which is critical at high-rank ranked.

What to Do If You’re Running Software

  • Don’t toggle Anti-Cheat Mode in lobby if you’re at risk. The option is opt-in — but if your queue partners enable it, you fall into the hardened pool.
  • Re-verify the signature of your DMA firmware — our review of current revisions is updated.
  • If you used Punisher exploit builds in the past week (abusing the reset itself) — rotate accounts. NetEase mentioned retro-detection of past 7 days of replays in the patch notes.

Meta After the Patch

  • Top-tier DPS: Star-Lord, Hela, Punisher (just without the exploit), Hawkeye.
  • Tank: Magneto drops to B-tier; Captain America and Groot rise.
  • Support: Loki is back in S; Rocket Raccoon stable.

The next patch is expected in roughly two weeks with a new hero (per NetEase teasers — Phoenix), and concurrently — expansion of Anti-Cheat Mode into a mandatory mode for all ranked matches above Diamond.
