Some software requires hardware virtualization to be enabled in BIOS. Intel calls this technology VT-x (Intel Virtualization Technology) and VT-d, while AMD calls it SVM (Secure Virtual Machine). By default, virtualization may be disabled.

Step 1: Check if Virtualization is Enabled

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Performance tab → CPU.
  3. In the bottom-right corner, look for "Virtualization".
  4. If it says "Enabled" — you're all set, no further steps needed.
  5. If it says "Disabled" — proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Enter BIOS

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Immediately after powering on, press the BIOS entry key. Usually it's Del, F2, F10, or Esc (depends on your motherboard manufacturer).
  3. If that doesn't work — try via Windows: Settings → Update & Security → Recovery → Advanced startup → Restart now, then select Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings.

Step 3: Find the Virtualization Setting

The setting location depends on your BIOS manufacturer. Look in sections like Advanced, CPU Configuration, Overclocking, or Security.

For Intel

  • Find Intel Virtualization Technology (or Intel VT-x)
  • Set it to Enabled
  • If Intel VT-d is available — enable it too

For AMD

  • Find SVM Mode (or Secure Virtual Machine)
  • Set it to Enabled

Step 4: Save and Reboot

  1. Press F10 to save settings (Save & Exit).
  2. Confirm the save.
  3. Your computer will reboot with virtualization enabled.

Step 5: Verify the Result

After Windows boots, open Task Manager → Performance → CPU again and verify that "Virtualization" now shows "Enabled".
