Hunt: Showdown 2.9.1 Removes Infinite Dark Sight Exploit

Hunt: Showdown update 2.9.1 closes an unlimited Dark Sight exploit, fixes match-related bugs, and expands profile customization rewards.

Hunt: Showdown received update 2.9.1 on October 5. It is primarily a maintenance patch rather than a balance overhaul, but one fix has direct match impact: a method of keeping Dark Sight active without running out has been removed. The update also cleans up controller behavior, Bloodskin interactions, challenge tracking, and several interface problems.

DLC avatars and the Cursed Kin challenge

Profile customization is the largest content-facing part of the patch. Players who own eligible DLC automatically receive the matching Hunter avatars, with 13 available in this wave. The selection includes Sofia, The Miko, The Penitent, Scaramuccia, Sgt. Bridgewater, Scourge: Morrigan, Scourge: Midian, The Bone Mason, and other DLC characters.

A new premium Story Challenge named Cursed Kin adds four chapters. Its reward path includes:

  • a Cousin Jed profile avatar and Legendary Hunter;
  • the Cursed Kin title and The Slasher skin for the Combat Axe;
  • a Cousin Jed profile frame and Restless Rotation equipment animation;
  • a Moses Family avatar and the Suffer the Silence charm.

Several progression issues were addressed alongside the new content. Piercing-damage kills against Armored enemies should now count correctly for the relevant Written in Blood objective, while shared challenge progress should refresh after restoring a teammate’s health. The patch also fixes missing Battle Pass notifications and an issue that kept some unlocked skins unavailable until their base item variants were obtained.

The fixes that matter during a match

The unlimited Dark Sight exploit is the most consequential correction in 2.9.1. The notes do not explain the required setup, but the previous behavior should no longer be treated as available after updating the client.

Other practical changes include more consistent sprint input on controllers and a corrected location at First Testimonial Church where players could previously avoid Bloodskin’s attacks. A lingering Bloodskin teleport sound near Boss Target compounds has been fixed as well.

Crytek also corrected the Lightfoot hint describing its relationship with Catalyst, stopped a single Trait interaction from selling two Traits, and addressed teammate voice volume becoming unusually low after Proximity Chat was enabled. The scope on Checks and Balances now matches the intended size relative to the standard Nitro Express scope, which may be noticeable to players with established sight pictures.

Console users receive several platform-specific fixes. Quick Slot assignment should work again on PlayStation and Xbox, promotional links have been repaired, and PlayStation frontend images should no longer take an excessive amount of time to appear.

What this means for players using software

The patch notes do not announce an anti-cheat update. There is therefore no factual basis for claiming that 2.9.1 introduces a new detection method, starts a ban wave, or suddenly makes an HWID spoofer necessary. It does, however, replace parts of the game client, and routine client changes can invalidate offsets, signatures, injection methods, or overlay positioning even when anti-cheat is not mentioned.

Check the software update status before loading a build made for the previous client. If it is still marked as updating or unavailable, waiting for compatibility confirmation is safer than assuming that a successful launch means every feature works correctly. Incorrect ESP projection or aim calibration may not be immediately obvious.

Scope-specific profiles deserve an extra check because the Checks and Balances optic geometry was corrected. Any setup that depended on the now-fixed Dark Sight behavior should also be considered obsolete. The Hunt: Showdown software catalog provides the available game-specific options, but only a build explicitly confirmed for the current client should be considered.
