Crytek keeps building out Legacy Chronicles — the narrative PVE format that’s become arguably the main draw of Hunt: Showdown over the last two seasons. The new episode is called Beware the Shadow and is already live on the servers.
What’s a Legacy Chronicle
For anyone out of the loop: Legacy Chronicle is a series of themed events, each with its own story, unique in-map puzzles, and exclusive rewards — skins, legendary weapons, and hunters. An episode runs roughly 4–8 weeks and offers an alternative way to play the familiar Bayou and Colorado maps.
Beware the Shadow follows the previous Hellborn episode. From the teasers, the main theme is something chthonic and shadowy (the name doesn’t lie), likely tied to the expanding mythology of the Bloodborn Beast and Cain.
The developer stream
On May 13, Crytek ran a developer gameplay stream on Twitch — the team played through the new content live, answered questions, and ran a giveaway. Standard format for the Hunt community: you could see new enemies and mechanics, listen to level-design commentary, and try to spot the secret quest triggers on the maps.
The VOD is on their main channel — worth a watch, especially if you’re planning to dive into the event in the first days (they typically show where to look for new items and quest activators).
Why keeping up with Chronicles matters
A Legacy Chronicle isn’t just cosmetics. During an event:
- The map loot pool shifts (event-specific items are added)
- Temporary AI modifiers appear (new monster types or behavior changes on existing ones)
- Unique bosses spawn for the quest line
- Doubled Bloodline rewards are available for the “correct” activities
For ESP/wallhack users: the map may include new points of interest during the event — old radar coordinates can show outdated data for the first day. Wait for a dev update on your software (our Hunt: Showdown catalog usually receives updates within 24 hours after a major content patch).
How to join
Beware the Shadow is available to all Hunt: Showdown owners — no separate purchase required, it activates automatically after launching the game. Episode progress is saved to your Bloodline, and you can complete it solo or in groups of up to three hunters.
Bottom line
Crytek showed once again that they know how to keep community interest going between bigger updates — regular Legacy Chronicles with dev streams keep players engaged. Beware the Shadow is a good reason to come back to the Bayou, especially if your last visit was during the previous episode. Happy hunting.
