SAND: Raiders of Sophie received Update 8 on August 20, bringing the first beta version of gear-based matchmaking. The patch also changes combat calculations, reactor durability, repair-kit handling, and several interactions previously linked to exploits or false anti-cheat warnings. With that many systems moving at once, players using third-party software should treat this as a compatibility-sensitive client update.
Shells and reactors change target priorities
Three Trampler armor sets are now available through the Tech Tree, accompanied by three specialized shell types:
- the 70 mm armor-piercing shrapnel shell enters as one projectile and releases fragments after penetrating armor;
- the 80 mm subcaliber shell has guaranteed penetration and can travel through several compartments;
- the 40 mm low-heat shell reduces autocannon heat buildup by 50%.
Hit feedback now separates four outcomes. A normal hit damages the target and destroys the projectile. A ricochet deals 20% damage before redirecting the shell, which can still cause full damage if it strikes something else. Penetration applies half damage to a compartment and lets the projectile continue, while a clean-through notification indicates that the shell passed through an already destroyed section.
Reactors have 50% more health and now communicate their condition visually. They become red as health falls, display boost effects, and produce smoke that responds to reactor condition, gear, and boosting. Rear hits count as critical damage, giving crews a clearer reason to protect that angle despite the larger health pool.
Matchmaking now reads the loadout
The beta matchmaker calculates a gear score from installed Trampler compartments and items placed in the outfitting slots. It initially searches for players at a comparable equipment level, then widens the range when it cannot fill a match.
This is not a permanent low-gear bracket. After a certain point, the system moves everyone into the general queue regardless of score. Queue times may increase slightly, particularly when fewer people are online, but matchmaking is designed to complete eventually. As a result, gear-based pairing should be most noticeable during populated hours rather than a reliable way to avoid stronger builds.
False positives and inventory exploits
Three anti-cheat false positives were addressed. They involved combining a jump toward the island with ladder use or parkour, plus turret fire incorrectly producing a suspicious-activity message. The announcement does not describe an anti-cheat replacement or a new hardware-identification system.
Update 8 also fixes multiple duplication methods and an exploit that converted default ammunition into special shells. A remote item-stealing issue is listed as potentially fixed rather than definitively closed. The developers also say they may have fixed cases where one Trampler passed through another on collision; other corrections cover incorrect leg placement after reconnecting and client-server disagreement over Upior positions.
Repair Kits no longer disappear when exhausted. They can be refilled with fuel dropped by ironclads, while empty kits are sold in Storage. Kits enter expeditions with no fuel and are automatically unloaded after extraction.
What this means for players using software
The practical risk comes from the breadth of the data changes, not from a confirmed new anti-cheat layer. New armor classes, projectile states, reactor feedback, repair-kit states, and matchmaking values can invalidate offsets or object mappings used by ESP, inventory displays, weapon modules, and automation features. A tool may launch normally while still reading the wrong compartment, item, or entity data.
Check the software update status page before launching, then compare what is available in the SAND: Raiders of Sophie catalog for the current client. If compatibility has not been confirmed, waiting for a tested build is safer than trying an older release on a primary account. Nothing in these notes alone justifies changing an HWID spoofer; the stated anti-cheat work targets false alerts, while the announced exploit fixes concern gameplay and inventory behavior.
