Offworld Industries has detailed Update 10.5.2 in a dev blog, and the patch is essentially about one system: suppression. The team says it ran multiple internal playtests, brought in outside player groups, then iterated and tested again before shipping. The update lands the day after the announcement, and the developers are explicit that this is not a final state — suppression will keep getting tuned.
The design goal
Suppression has been a long-running argument in the Squad community. The stated aim of the rework is to make being suppressed feel fair, to fit the system alongside the refined gunplay introduced in v10.4, and to stop suppression from dominating close-quarters fights while keeping it meaningful at range.
The practical changes:
- Faster decay. Stop taking fire and the effect drops off much sooner than before.
- Tighter radius and smarter triggering. Stray rounds that were never a real threat no longer count as suppressing fire.
- Rebalanced per weapon type. A single rifleman barely suppresses anyone; a coordinated fireteam still does. Machine guns and automatic rifles get a clearer role as the tools for pinning people down.
- Area versus point suppression. MGs and heavy weapons now cover a wider radius and saturate space better. Marksman rifles, sniper rifles, battle rifles and light support weapons such as the RPK apply exponentially more suppression on near misses.
Pressure on your aim, not on your senses
The conceptual shift matters more than any single number. Suppression used to degrade your ability to read the fight; now it degrades your ability to shoot back. The fullscreen blur is gone, replaced by a vignette that produces tunnel vision without smearing the middle of the screen or tanking image quality. Explosives get their own visual treatment.
Weapon sway is more pronounced while suppressed, and hold breath can no longer cancel it out under fire. To offset that, focus zoom now stays active for as long as you hold the ADS input, while hold breath itself still times out. Supersonic crack and snap audio has been reworked so you get a clear cue when a round passed close enough to suppress you.
What this means for players using software
Start with the boring part: this is a client update, so memory layouts shift. Anything that reads game state directly — aimbot, ESP, radar feeds — needs a rebuild before it is safe to load. Do not launch a stale build against a patched client just to see what happens; check the software update statuses first and wait for the developer to confirm the new version.
Three things are specific to this patch:
- Recoil and sway logic changed under your feet. Increased sway while suppressed, plus no hold breath under fire, means any aim assistance tuned against the old convergence model will behave differently. Expect to retune smoothing and prediction, and do it somewhere quiet rather than mid-firefight on a full server.
- The screen effect changed. If your overlay renders boxes or text near the frame edges, test how it reads with the new vignette active. The old blur washed the whole screen; the vignette darkens the periphery, which is exactly where a lot of ESP information sits.
- Perfect accuracy under fire is now visually loud. Previously a suppressed player genuinely could not see well, and misses were excused by the mechanic. Now suppression only touches your aim — so someone holding a clean centre-mass string while an MG saturates their position stands out to anyone reviewing the clip. That is a human-report problem, not an anti-cheat problem, and Squad’s clan-heavy population reports quickly.
DMA setups and external tooling usually survive a content patch, but anti-cheat components tend to ride along with client updates, so giving the release a day or two before your first session remains the cheapest insurance you can buy. If you run an HWID spoofer, verify it initialises properly after the update rather than assuming it did. Current builds for the game are listed on our Squad page.
