Today, May 14, 2026, Unknown Worlds officially opened Early Access for Subnautica 2 — the sequel to the cult underwater survival game that once set the bar for the “one player against an alien planet” genre. The launch was simultaneous worldwide: 8:00 AM PDT / 11:00 AM EDT / 4:00 PM BST. The game is available on Steam and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox Game Pass support from day one.
What’s in the Early Access build
Unknown Worlds themselves say this is the biggest and most polished Early Access launch in the studio’s history. That’s an important caveat: the original Subnautica and Below Zero both entered Early Access in a much rawer state, and that scared off plenty of players at the time.
What’s confirmed at launch:
- 4-player co-op — the major new killer feature missing from the original.
- A new planet with its own ecosystem, biomes and fauna.
- Expanded underwater vehicle system — refreshed submarines, habitable modules and bases.
- Story setup is already in place, but the campaign finale has been openly held back for full release.
Right before launch the game crossed 5 million Steam wishlists — a massive number for a niche underwater survival title. To celebrate, the studio is giving every launch-window buyer an in-game gift (base cosmetic).
Price and platforms
- Steam (PC): Early Access is sold at full price, with a guarantee the price won’t go up at 1.0.
- Xbox Series X|S: available both as a purchase and via Xbox Game Pass from day one at no extra cost for subscribers.
- PS5: at the Early Access stage there is no announced version; Unknown Worlds historically ship PlayStation builds later.
Important nuance: Early Access ≠ full release. Content will keep landing in patches, and part of the story arc will only unlock closer to 1.0. That’s the standard Unknown Worlds path — the first game went through the same cycle.
Where to buy it cheaper than Steam direct

What this means for players who use software
The IVSOFTE.BIZ catalogue currently has no cheats or private tools for Subnautica 2 — the game just launched, it doesn’t run an EAC/BE-tier anti-cheat, and private communities around it simply haven’t formed yet. If you plan to play the campaign or co-op with friends, you don’t need any external tools right now.
If private modifications appear later (trainers, freecam, crafting accelerators, resource generators), we’ll add them to our singleplayer games section as a separate entry. Follow our Telegram to catch the update.
What’s next
Unknown Worlds laid out an Early Access roadmap that runs at least a year: new biomes, habitable underwater stations, main story progression and a PS5 version closer to 1.0. If the trajectory of the original Subnautica holds, the game will look noticeably different by full release — and in a good way.
For now — dive in. Subnautica 2’s dark water is waiting.
