The First Descendant Update 1.3.28: New Accelerate Research Event for Returning Players

On May 21, 2026, Nexon released patch 1.3.28 for The First Descendant — balance fixes, new in-game events including "May New/Returning Player Accelerate Research," and store updates. We break down what's changing, what it means for the meta, and how the anti-cheat behaves after the update.

On May 21, Nexon rolled out Update 1.3.28 for The First Descendant alongside three in-game events. The version isn’t tagged as major, but it touches significant systems: matchmaking, the research-materials economy, and balance tweaks for the post-Hailey meta.

What’s in the Patch

Character balance changes:

  • Hailey — sniper ultimate aim point brought in line with the standard: minor reduction to headshot damage from 215% → 200% of base. Tied to complaints about one-shot potential at level 50+.
  • Bunny — fixed interaction of electric trail with boss DOT events; now stacks correctly with other sources.
  • Ajax — shield barrier buffed: incoming damage reduction up 8% (from 32% to 40%).

May events:

  1. Accelerate Research Event — returning players (last login > 14 days) get 2× crafting speed on research materials through May 31.
  2. Daily Login Boost — 14 days of bonus quests with codes for kuiper, gold, and descendant unlock tickets.
  3. Mission Score Race — competition on rapid-clear time in Hard mode dungeons at top tiers.

Anti-Cheat Changes

Nexon mentioned in a single line in the changelog: “improved detection for third-party modification tools.” That’s boilerplate — no specifics on which part of the stack was updated. From our tests within an hour of the update:

  • Older versions of kmbox netcheats (revision <1.4.2) now trigger an immediate ban in the first 30 seconds of a patrol mission.
  • DMA builds with March 2026 firmware pass init, but get a server-side flag for “irregular input patterns.” For the first week post-patch, this carries soft-ban risk.
  • Cheat Engine 7.5+ is blocked instantly on memory scan at startup — typical behavior for an EAC update.

A full breakdown of TFD’s anti-cheat stack is in our guide.

Meta After the Patch

The Hailey nerf isn’t critical, but shifts the top tier by 1-2 positions in community rankings:

  1. Ines remains #1 for AOE farm
  2. Hailey drops from #2 to #3-4 (build-dependent)
  3. Sharen is back in conversation with the stealth-mod buff
  4. Freyna holds boss-clear niches with the poison build

If Hailey is your main, you don’t need to rebuild — the nerf is light enough to remain comfortable even at the highest Inferno difficulty.

What to Do If You’re Running Software

  • Don’t update the client immediately — wait ~12–24 hours after release for cheat providers to patch for the new build version (standard cycle for TFD).
  • If running DMA + privacy spoofer, update firmware to the current revision before the session. Test in PvE-only zones on day one, not in Matchmaking.
  • Account hygiene — if you have a risk flag after the May 8-14 ban wave (see our breakdown), don’t rush back: better a fresh account via region switch to Turkish or Ukrainian PSN/Steam.

The next major update is 1.4.0, announced by Nexon for late June, featuring a new descendant — Esiemo.
