IRONMACE has shipped Hotfix #123 for Dark and Darker. On paper it is a bugfix pass, but two changes matter far more than the patch notes suggest: High Roller now opens at 225 gear score instead of 280, and Barbarian walks away with a stack of cuts. Weekly Hall of Fame placements also start paying out real gold.
A cheaper ticket into High Roller
The studio says the 55-point reduction came out of live data analysis. What it means in practice is that a lot of players who used to be locked out will now queue into High Roller with mid-tier kits. Expect busier, messier dungeons: more PvP contacts per run, more under-geared trios throwing themselves at chokepoints, and fewer quiet corners to farm.
The leaderboard payouts push in the same direction. First place gets a bag worth 5,000 gold, ranks 2 through 100 get 2,500, delivered by the Expressman, and nothing carries into the next season. Players chasing multiple boards collect for each one. If you grind ranks, the end of the week just became a lot more competitive.
Balance: Barbarian eats the nerf bat
- Barbarian takes the heaviest pass. Whirlwind loses 10% damage when it collides with shields, walls, doors or structures. War Cry drops from a 20% to a 15% max health bonus and from 10 to 8 seconds. Savage Roar’s cooldown climbs from 28 to 32 seconds. Treacherous Lungs now extends duration by 30% instead of 50%.
- Fighter loses a little pace: Sprint’s move speed per stack falls from 15 to 13.
- Cleric sees Locust Swarm move from Divine to Earth magic, and Veil of Judgement now applies a vision-obscuring effect before and after it lands.
- Monsters get retuned: the Magma Wyvern’s charge hit detection was reworked with a small health cut, the Fire Colossus lost some attack range and health, and a new enemy, the Emberwing, joins The Firedeep.
Two bugfixes stand out for PvP: you can no longer loot the Soul Heart of players outside your party, and Wizards can no longer Fly out of Murder of Crows inside the Blue Maelstrom Spawning Pool module.
What this means for players using software
Every hotfix is a fresh client build, and fresh builds move memory offsets. It does not matter that most of these notes read cosmetic — the binary was recompiled, so entity lists, loot arrays and world pointers shift around. In practice that shows up as an ESP drawing nothing, drawing garbage, or losing entity tracking mid-raid. Never launch an outdated build to “see if it still works”: a crash with an unsigned module resident in memory is the worst possible way to test.
The sane routine is unchanged. Wait for a compatibility confirmation, check your product on the software update statuses page, then queue. DMA users are not exempt — hardware separation does nothing about relocated structures, so you still need a current offset set. External solutions usually come back online faster than internal ones, but they also need remapping.
Anticheat is the other half of the picture. The notes say nothing about protection, but it cannot be ruled out that its modules were refreshed alongside the client build — that kind of change rarely gets its own bullet point. Going by community reports around previous updates, the first day after a patch is usually the noisiest one for ban complaints. If the account matters to you, sit out that window and read the feedback. If you are logging in from new hardware or have prior blocks on the machine, keep your HWID spoofer current rather than assuming last month’s version still holds.
There is a gameplay angle too. A lower High Roller gate means more bodies on the map, which means radar and ESP filters tuned for thin lobbies will now hand you an unreadable screen — trim your draw distance and category filters before your first serious run. Veil of Judgement’s new vision effect is worth a test as well, since overlays behave differently under heavy screen distortion. Current builds for the live version are listed on our Dark and Darker page.
