Dark and Darker Hotfix 122: anniversary event and crash fixes

IRONMACE shipped Hotfix 122 for Dark and Darker with the 3rd anniversary event, two crash fixes, monster hitbox corrections and a batch of ping system improvements for party play.

IRONMACE has pushed Early Access Hotfix 122 for Dark and Darker. The headline is the third anniversary event — the Skeleton Merchant is back in the Tavern with a dedicated quest called “A Bone-A-Fide Anniversary” — but the bulk of the patch is a long bugfix pass, a set of balance tweaks and a cleanup of the ping system.

The crash fixes matter most

Two of the entries stand out because they affect client stability rather than gameplay: the game could crash when moving into the lobby from character selection, and it could crash while viewing the death cam. Both are now fixed. Anything that touches lobby transitions and post-death rendering means the studio has been in that part of the code, which is worth remembering later.

Beyond that, the list is dense:

  • Clerics can no longer use Miracle in the waiting room to revive teammates who died on a previous floor, and the resurrection VFX now shows up correctly at distant corpses.
  • Getting hit by Holy Strike and immediately by Veil of Judgement no longer leaves all audio muffled for the rest of the session.
  • Wizards can’t slip out with Fly before the drawbridge finishes lowering, and the Ice Abyss exploit that let players reach unintended high ground via Fly or updrafts is closed.
  • Cockatrice and Abomination attack hitboxes now match their VFX, and the Magma Wyvern stops chasing players who left the combat area.
  • Spectator mode no longer gets stuck after death, including the Squire Royale case where the lobby appeared instead of the spectate view.
  • Sold Marketplace listings no longer linger in the browser.

Pings, party play and what’s next

A whole cluster of fixes targets pings: markers from a previous floor no longer persist into the waiting room, Arena pings clear after a round, spectators can delete their own markers, and the map window stops resizing when you hover a ping that displays a player name. IRONMACE says more quality-of-life work is on the way.

The studio also confirmed it is still reading data from last season’s Normal and High-Roller changes and intends to keep tuning both modes. Treat the current risk-versus-loot balance as provisional.

What this means for players using software

A hotfix of this size ships a fresh client build, and a fresh build almost always shifts memory layout. The patch notes read as “bugs only,” but hitbox corrections, revive logic and ping handling all live in game code, not in a content file. An ESP or aimbot compiled against the previous offsets is likely to render garbage or crash you out — and given that this very patch touched lobby and death cam crashes, a crash on entry is the likelier outcome.

The routine is boring and it works: don’t launch anything on patch day until your provider posts a compatibility confirmation. We track build status on our software updates page, and current Dark and Darker options live on the game page.

One extra consideration around the anniversary event. Limited-time quests pull returning players and casuals back into the dungeons, lobbies get busier, and the volume of reports tends to rise with them. That is not the moment to run aggressive aimbot settings on an account you care about. Keep visual-only features on your main, push risky sessions onto a throwaway profile, and run an HWID spoofer if you’d rather not pay for new hardware IDs later — recovering from a hardware ban costs more time than buying another key.
