Battlestate Games published an explainer post titled “What is TarCoin?” — and this is no longer a “someday” announcement: TarCoins have already started appearing in raids in Escape from Tarkov. Here is what we know about the new currency and why it deserves your attention right now.
What is TarCoin
In short: TarCoin is a new type of in-game currency that will be used exclusively within the Expansion Hub. It is not a replacement for roubles, dollars or euros on the flea market — TarCoin lives in its own separate ecosystem.
The topic first came up during the May TarkovTV episode (we covered that show in our Icebreaker and Prestige rework recap) — back then “tarcoin” was a work-in-progress concept. Now BSG has confirmed the mechanics and the coins are live in the game.
What is the Expansion Hub
The Expansion Hub is a centralized menu for all expansions of the Tarkov ecosystem, shown during the latest TarkovTV. That is where TarCoin will be spent. BSG’s logic reads clearly: farm a dedicated currency in raids of the base game — exchange it for content and perks in the expansion hub.
Why it matters right now
- The coins are already spawning in raids. Loot tables just gained a new entry with unclear but potentially high long-term value — the classic “collect it before everyone figures out why” scenario.
- Early farming historically pays off. In Tarkov, any new currency-item is undervalued at launch: remember early prices on quest markers or rare keys right after wipes.
- The RMT market will react first. A new currency with a limited source is a magnet for farmers and real-money traders. Expect heavier ban waves in this direction: BSG traditionally hits RMT harder than regular cheaters.
What it means for players running software
For those raiding with private software for EFT, the takeaway is practical:
- Item ESP with a TarCoin filter is the key tool of the coming weeks: the coins spawn in raids, and whoever spots them first corners the market. We compared product lines with configurable loot filters in our best EFT cheats roundup.
- Watch your farming patterns. Systematically vacuuming one loot type at a high run rate is a behavioral marker used to catch RMT farmers. Vary your routes and don’t sweep coins out of every single raid.
