ARK: Survival Ascended has two updates lined up within a little over a month. The final Astraeos update arrives on August 26 with Boaratos, while September 30 brings the more consequential release: Unreal Engine 5.8, a Therizinosaurus TLC, Cerberax, and Gargantar in one package.
September is the update to watch
The move to Unreal Engine 5.8 is the headline change. Studio Wildcard says the engine team has focused on practical performance gains, platform-specific fixes, and a stronger base for future development. The announcement does not include benchmarks or detailed patch notes, so there is no way to quantify those gains yet.
Even without numbers, this is a larger technical event than a routine creature drop. An engine migration can touch rendering, asset loading, memory layouts, and the assumptions made by existing mods. Players running heavily modified servers should expect individual mod creators to have their own compatibility timelines rather than assuming everything will work on launch day.
Three creatures with different roles
The September release also has a substantial creature component. Therizinosaurus is receiving the TLC selected through the Extra Life community vote. Its visual identity and personality are being refreshed, but the developers intend to preserve its familiar position as a powerful harvesting creature. No ability values or balance statistics have been provided yet.
Two additions will arrive alongside that rework:
- Cerberax is the second creature from ARK Fantastic Tames Season 1, following Burrowbuck. It can carry a solo survivor into combat, although its three heads and interconnected attacks are designed to offer more possibilities when tribemates coordinate around it.
- Gargantar is a large dragon from ARK Dragontopia. Expansion Pass owners are due to receive early access to the creature.
These additions may have consequences beyond collection and taming. Cerberax’s chained abilities could create new tribe tactics, while any changes to Therizinosaurus harvesting may alter established resource routines. The announcement does not provide enough detail to judge the resulting balance yet.
Boaratos arrives first
Astraeos receives its final update on August 26. Its main featured creature is Boaratos, a hot-tempered hog built to contribute both in combat and resource gathering. This earlier patch creates a useful distinction for compatibility: it is still a client update worth monitoring, but the September engine migration is the release most likely to require deeper work from third-party developers.
What this means for players using software
Treat August 26 and September 30 as separate compatibility checks. A content update can introduce entity classes that older ESP filters do not recognize, leaving Boaratos or related objects missing, mislabeled, or grouped incorrectly. Confirm the build status before loading into a regular session rather than assuming support carries over from the previous client.
On September 30, waiting for an explicit UE 5.8 update is the sensible approach. Engine-level changes can invalidate offsets, alter memory structures, or break rendering hooks. Software may fail to attach, crash the game, or return unreliable information even if its interface still opens normally. The software update status page should be checked before each session during the rollout window.
There is no anti-cheat update or ban wave mentioned in the announcement. That means the post offers no factual reason to replace an HWID spoofer specifically, but it also does not establish that existing tools will remain compatible. The ARK: Survival Ascended software catalog provides the game-specific options; after the engine switch, prioritize a developer’s stated UE 5.8 support over how recently a product page was published.
