Bohemia Interactive has opened the experimental phase of the summer update 1.29 Road to Badlands — an interim patch that brings selected content from the upcoming DayZ Badlands expansion into the base game. Version 1.30 is already reserved for Badlands itself, so the “road to the badlands” formally stays within 1.29 — but in terms of content and fixes it’s comparable to a full regular update.
SCR-17 — the community’s most requested gun
The star of the update is the SCR-17 battle rifle chambered in .308 with a 20-round magazine, one of the most requested firearms among players. Key points:
- LAR-level modularity — two buttstock variants (default and precision), compatibility with all western optics.
- New Holo Sights — non-magnifying sights that also fit other western firearms.
- Two colors: default tan and black — the black variant is exclusive to Sakhal, “more aesthetically suited to the region.”
Convoys are now Nasdara wrecks
Every convoy event asset has been replaced with wrecks from Nasdara — the dynamic locations and loot tier stay roughly the same. Sakhal won’t see convoys (no land equivalent exists there) but gets unique loot instead. On the gear side there’s a tanker helmet and a military cap in color variants, plus a combat backpack and plate carrier vest in desert camo.
Exploit and bug fixes
A separate block addresses issues from 1.29: firearm zeroing on Xbox K&M servers is fixed, stamina now returns after dropping weighted items, and stashes buried next to player-built walls can be dug up again. Bohemia also switched to a new and improved feedback tracker.
The experimental period will run 2–4 weeks before the update ships to stable across all platforms.
What it means for players using software
- The experimental branch is a separate client. Software built for stable 1.29 is not guaranteed to work on experimental — don’t test it there; wait for the stable release and vendor updates. Statuses are on the game updates page.
- Replacing convoy assets usually means Item ESP offsets need updating — once 1.29 RtB hits stable, give vendors a day or two to adapt.
- The SCR-17 will be a PvP magnet at convoy crash sites: fresh-gun spawns will pull maximum traffic. Player ESP helps you judge whether a location is occupied before you walk into it.
